The William Kapell International Piano Competition & Festival celebrates the piano, pianists and piano music in its many forms. We honor the name of William Kapell (1922-1953), an extraordinary American pianist with an enduring legacy.

The 27th William Kapell International Piano Competition & Festival will take place July 7-July 21, 2012 at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland.

Application guidelines will be available online in early Fall 2010, with an application deadline for December 1, 2011. The 2012 Kapell competition will be open to pianists of any nationality, aged 18-33 (born on or after July 21, 1978 and no later than July 6, 1994). The competition is not open to previous first prize winners of the Kapell Competition.
